Made by communities: territorial control, environmental sensing and irrigation solutions from the ground
Communities in Global Majority countries have special hardware needs that cannot always be met by off-the-shelf solutions, which can be too expensive, too far to ship, and too hard too fix. In response to local needs, alternative ways to communicate and serve specific territories are co-created and organized in a collective manner. Our table showcases community-centered hardware solutions from Africa, Asia, Latin America and Europe that are ripe to be replicated and further developed as building blocks in open hardware ecosystems. Find out how to communicate over long distances without internet, how to automatize irrigation, how to measure air, sound and water pollution and how to protect territories from illegal logging. Let’s discuss together how these functional solutions can dialogue with other open hardware projects in a global community of practice.
