Electronic synapse

We present  new electronic modules which can be combined with our previous neuromorphic circuit used in neuroscience education, Neurosimilator. These electronic circuits mimic synaptic cleft, where excitatory/inhibitory presynaptic membrane is separated from excitatory/inhibitory postsynaptic receptor membranes situated on the dendrite module. Synaptic transmission is modelled by optical “neurotransmitter” release. This allows students to explore synaptic connections in temporal and spatial dimensions.
