Second to Swan Song

Performance by Aditi Chauhan

A shift has been registered, a shift has been traced is a situated, multimedia immersive project and performance using radio, textile and text as a base to explore and interpret ideas of ephemeral fossilisation, archiving, and chaotic interactivity at cosmic scales. An analog foxhole radio set up (based on Shortwave Collective’s open wave receiver) extends to create a radio field in the form of long suspended antennas of copper enmeshed in fibrous jute ropes, that when walked through generate perceivable interference, as an act of shifts being registered by colliding bodies of particles (including radio wave, sonic and human scales).

Second to Swan Song is a prosaic movement-based iteration of the project, situated in the installation.

My Lady of Mercy (La Maupin)

Performance by MISTER E (Mel Ho) + Nisa Khan

A drag performance based on the icon La Maupin, a notorious opera singer who burned down a convent to run away with her lover, gets caught, and is sentenced to death by burning. She obviously flees town and spends the rest of her life singing opera, macking on both men and women, and skipping town after town every-time she killed someone in a duel.

Tape Traverse

Performance by Qihan Jiang

Tape Traverse is a musical instrument built using cassette tape players and analog circuits. It explores using hardware and the physical movements they enable to embody the concepts of rotation and travel in sound. Performers see the tape traveling of the cassette tape moving from one side to the other when making sound. They will also see the spinning of the disk when turning on tremolo using knobs. The instruments’ sound qualities, pitch and amplitude modulations, are all embodied by the qualities of the hardware enabled physical movements.

Tinabel vs Nintendo DSi - Chiptune Punk and New Wave music using Rhythm Core Alpha 2

Performance by Tina Belmont

Tina Belmont is the creator of Rhythm Core Alpha 2, a complete music creation and live performance system for the Nintendo DSi and 3DS game consoles. She uses her own software to put on a blistering and emotional show of punky new-wave indie rock music about loneliness, overwork, burnout, transition, passing and other topics that everybody in tech can unfortunately relate to. But she’s only got like 7 minutes or something, so maybe you only get a little bit sad…
